Manchester United have reportedly open talks with Bayern Munich defender, Benjamin Pavard, as Harry Maguire continues negotiations over a move to West Ham .

The Red Devils are closing in on their fourth signing of the summer, after adding Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund to their squad.

However, any further additions can only occur if players are sold in the coming days and former captain, Harry Maguire, could be the first to leave the club.

Maguire’s future in Manchester has been hit with further doubt in recent weeks, after the England international was stripped of his role as captain. Erik ten Hag opted to give midfield maestro, and last season’s vice-captain, Bruno Fernandes the captain’s armband.

Premier League club, West Ham United, have also shown interest in the former English defender, as the Hammers have seen their £30m bid accepted by Manchester United.

Should the move materialise then United will need to act swiftly and Erik ten Hag has identified Benjamin Pavard as a potential replacement – as talks with the Frenchman begin.

The French defender has made 162 appearances for the Bundesliga champions since his move from Stuttgart and has established himself in France’s squad.

Pavard has been a key member in the Bayern Munich side and was hugely involved in the 2022-23 campaign, whcih was an interesting season for the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich clinched their 11th consecutive league title on the final day of the Bundesliga season and maintained their throne in Germany.

Despite this, Thomas Tuchel will look back on the campaign with disappointment as his side were eliminated from the Champions League and DFB Pokal in emphatic fashion.

Pavard has one-year left on his current deal in Germany, meaning he could cost the Cityzens up to £40m – should he decide to move this summer.
