Arsenal Consider Audacious Double-Player Swap Deal For Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella

Arsenal’s summer business appears far from over, with the club now said to be focusing on balancing the books by offloading those deemed surplus to requirements. However, reports suggest they could look to use not one, but two players in a potential swap deal for Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella.

As many as seven players, all of whom have been strongly linked with a move away, could depart before September 1st’s deadline.

After racing out the blocks to secure their three priority signings early in the window, the club are now intent on recouping some of that investment by trimming what is still a bloated squad.

The likes of Cedric, Nuno Tavares and Nicolas Pepe appear dead-certs to exit before the window closes, while the futures of players such as Takehiro Tomiyasu and the promising Folarin Balogun remain uncertain.

According to fresh reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato, both Tomiyasu and Balogun may well be used as makeweight as the Gunners continue their squad overhaul.

Long-time Liverpool target Nicolo Barella, who has also attracted the attention of Newcastle and Manchester City, is the target of a deal in which Arsenal would offer both players in an audacious swap deal.

Inter have made no secret of their admiration for Balogun having made a verbal offer of around £40m last week, while Tomiyasu, although not thought to be considering leaving, may feel his role is under threat after the arrival of Jurrien Timber.

Barella is considered one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, and proved instrumental in his side’s run to the Champions League final last term. He rounded off the season with a career best of 19 goal involvements in all competitions.

With a market value of around £70m, Inter have stood firm over their near-£100m valuation. They may be tempted by Arsenal’s bold proposal however, particularly given the viability of both players in Simone Inzaghi’s system.
