Chelsea have confirmed a transfer with Marseille for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has agreed a three-year deal with the French club after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

It is no secret that Aubameyang has failed to impress in London over recent years and his time in England looks to be finally over on a rather sour note.

The Gabonese forward scored just one goal for the Blues in the Premier League last season and after another disappointing campaign, it will be no surprise to see him leave this summer.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino obviously see’s no future for the striker and the £170,000 a week salary may be the main reason ‘Auba’ is forced to leave in this window.

It was reported yesterday that Pochettino had even asked Aubameyang to train separately from the rest of the squad, along with other out of favour stars who won’t be involved with Chelsea’s pre-season tour in America.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday morning that Aubameyang is closing in on a surprise move to Marseille, with a perhaps even more surprising three year deal.

“Olympique Marseille and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang have reached agreement on three-year contract — until 2026.

“Aubameyang, open to join OM — that’s why Marseille are optimistic, confident to get it done. Negotiations with Chelsea, not expected to be complicated.”

The 34-year-old has already played in Germany, England and Spain, so he has now played in four of the top five leagues in the world for some of Europe’s top sides.

The three year deal with Marseille means that Aubameyang will turn 37 when his contract expires in 2026.
