Manchester United have reportedly dismissed West Ham’s approach to sign former club captain Harry Maguire on loan.

After being stripped of his Manchester United captaincy, Harry Maguire is being heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit – with West Ham being named as a potential suitor for his signature.

The Hammers have reportedly offered to sign the England international on loan, however The Guardian claim that the Red Devils have rebuffed their offer in an attempt to part ways with the 30-year-old on a permanent basis.

Maguire was reportedly told by Erik ten Hag that he wasn’t a part of the Dutchman’s long-term plans, but West Ham feel a permanent move may be too expensive.

A loan with a potential option to buy is being explored by David Moyes’ side, although United may be more receptive to a loan move later in the transfer window.

The report also claims that Maguire’s current terms are too high for the Conference League winners, therefore he’d likely have to accept a paycut in order to facilitate a move to the London Stadium.

Maguire’s stock as a Premier League centre-back has drastically dropped in recent seasons, having started just eight English top-flight matches last term.

A move will surely be required if he wants to remain a part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the European Championships in 2024, especially considering the talent coming through for England.

Levi Colwill was recently called up to the senior side, and shone for the Under-21 side at the European Championships, and could well be in line to replace Maguire in future squads.

Hammers manager Moyes wants competition in the squad for Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma, with Angelo Ogbonna also ageing and Thilo Kehrer’s future in doubt, so a move to the capital could be the perfect opportunity for Maguire to revitalise his career.
