French champions PSG have reportedly triggered Xavi Simons’ buy-back clause following his impressive season with Eredivisie outfit PSV.

Xavi Simons has seen his buy-back clause triggered by Ligue 1 champions PSG following the youngster’s impressive season with PSV.

Simons departed the Parc des Princes last summer, returning to his native Netherlands with Eredivisie outfit PSV.

In what was his first full season in senior football, the 20-year-old hugely impressed, turning out for his side on 48 occasions, scoring 22 goals as well as assisting 12 goals.

This has reportedly led to PSG triggering Simons’ buy-back clause, which is believed to be in the region of €6million.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday morning that the youngster had left PSV’s pre-season camp in order to complete his return to the French capital, with two options now on the table.

The first option will see Simons remain at PSG next season, however this would require either Kylian Mbappe or Neymar to depart, with the second option being a loan if the pair remain at the club.

Romano revealed the latest on Simons’ situation on his social channels.

“Xavi Simons has left PSV camp to sign with Paris Saint-Germain!” he tweeted.

“PSG triggered €6m buy back clause, as revealed days ago.

“Understand there are 2 ways now, if Mbappé or Neymar leave, Xavi will stay at PSG. If both stay, Xavi will join another club on LOAN.”

Simons’ impressive displays at club level has also seen him be rewarded at international level.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the youngster made his debut for the senior Netherlands national team in their 3-1 victory over the United States of America in the Round of 16, and has since turned out for Ronald Koeman’s side five times.

It looks to be a clever signing for PSG, especially for as little as €6million, as the Parisien’s search for a new talisman amid the departure of Lionel Messi and the prospective exits of Mbappe and Neymar.
