US president Joe Biden arrived in the UK ahead of Tuesday’s crucial NATO meeting, with Ukraine’s membership big high on the agenda. ‘Sleepy Joe’ has so far managed to avoid any major hiccups, but here at SportsLens we have complied exclusive odds on a whole host of comical scenarios that could play out on his visit.
- SportsLens have cast a keen eye over Biden’s visit as the 80-year-old brushes shoulders with fellow world leaders.
- ‘Bumbling Joe Biden’ is known for having an endless highlight reel of gaffes and slip-ups.
- Having mispronounced UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s name on multiple occasions, he is as short at 5/4 to do it again.
What Will Happen On Joe Biden’s Visit to the UK?
- Joe Biden mispronouncing words in a speech – 1/8
- Joe Biden calling Rishi Sunak by the wrong name – 5/4
- Joe Biden falling over – 12/1
- Joe Biden taken to hospital – 12/1
SportsLens Head of News Lee Astley said: “With Ukraine giving clear signals that a fast-tracked membership into NATO is becoming increasingly necessary, you can almost guarantee Joe Biden will cut the tension with a slip-up or two.
“Drifting off during conferences, taking a tumble and even muddling up global conflicts are his forte, and the self-professed gaffe machine will be hoping to avoid drawing unwanted to criticism from the likes of Donald Trump, who has long questioned Biden’s mental competence.
“He has already been spotted trying to speak to the King’s Royal Guard, and he of all people should know they only respond to the King himself.”
Joe Biden Mispronouncing Words in a Speech – 1/8
A well-documented speech impediment is often to blame for Joe Biden’s mid-sentence blunders, but there have undoubtedly been times when even that can not hide ‘Bumbling Biden’s’ wrongdoings.
He appeared to forget how to pronounce Vice President Kamala Harris’ name in January, while just a few month prior he referred French president Emmanuel Macron as “Macrone“.
Although we are yet to see Biden trip over his own words, he already skipped the NATO dinner in preparation for a ‘big speech’ on Wednesday, while King Charles was also seen hurrying him along as he attempted to speak to the King’s Guard.
Joe Biden Calling Rishi Sunak By the Wrong Name – 5/4
Upon Rishi Sunak taking up office as the Tory leader in October of last year, Biden added a “d” on the end of his first name.
However, the mishaps don’t end there. At the end of January, he spoke of additional support for Ukraine in their fight against the Russian invasion.
He said: “This morning I had a long conversation with our Nato allies – Mr Scholz, French president Macron, and prime minister Sanuk [instead of Sunak] and the Italian prime minister, uh, Meloni, to continue our close coordination and fully support of Ukraine.”
Biden met one-on-one with Sunak on Monday, and we can only hope his publicist made him write out his name on a sheet 100 times before touching down on British soil.
Joe Biden Falling Over – 12/1
Gravity seems to affect Biden more than most and the US leader has a remarkable highlight reel of him taking a tumble.
Perhaps the most famous of these falls came in March 2021, where he attempted a speedy run up the stairs to board Air Force One, only to slip-up no once but twice on his way to the cabin. Of course, he would later suffer the same fate in February of this year as he departed Warsaw.
Elsewhere, he took a tumble over a sandbag after handing out diplomas to US Air Force Academy graduates in Colorado back in March, while a comical series of events in Delaware last summer saw the president keel over, almost in slow motion, on his bike.
Biden ending up on the floor can never be ruled out and at 12/1 would certainly be worth taking a chance on. The 80-year-old is usually quick to get back up on his feet, but our exclusive odds reflect the same price if you think he’ll end up paying the NHS a visit to test out their facilities.
