David De Gea has officially left Manchester United today, with the goalkeeper posting an emotional farewell message to fans as he leaves on a free transfer.

The Spaniard took to Twitter in an emotional farewell message, thanking United supporters for his last 12 years at the club.

“I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters.”

“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club.”

“I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.

“It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy we would achieve what we did together.”

While his new club is yet to be unveiled, De Gea will leave Manchester United as a club legend this summer having played over 500 games for the Red Devils.

Despite winning the Premier League golden glove last season, De Gea came under heavy criticism throughout a tough year that eventually forced the 32-year-old to leave on a free transfer.

“Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.

“Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me.”

United will now look to the transfer market for De Gea’s replacement and although they have been heavily linked with Andre Onana, Erik Ten Hag’s side will need to raise funds if they are to sign Inter’s number one.
