Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has announced his retirement from professional football due to injury, Watford have confirmed.
16-time England international Tom Cleverley has announced his immediate retirement from football, his last club Watford confirmed this afternoon.
The 33-year-old enjoyed a 15 year senior playing career, coming through the ranks at Manchester United as a scholar.
Cleverley turned out for United on 79 occasions, and had spells out loan with Leicester, Watford, Wigan and Aston Villa, before a permanent move to Merseyside with Everton.
After just two seasons with the Toffees, Cleverley joined Watford on-loan in 2017, before joining permanently at the end of his loan spell.
In total, he made 242 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 15 goals, and assisting on 17 occasions.
His honours include an English top flight title, a Carabao Cup, two Community Shields, and the League One title.

Watford confirmed on Saturday afternoon that the midfielder had retired as a result of injury.
The Hornets also teased that there is some exciting news regarding Cleverley to follow, with many tipping that he will take up a coaching role with the club.
“No one could have worked harder than Tom did to make it back from several injuries, which he’s tried to do while always providing a positive force around the players,” said Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury.
“I can’t speak highly enough about Tom as a person, a player and our captain. Tom is the type of professional all clubs would be delighted to have in their team.
“The year’s loan at the club before he joined again in January 2017 really helped him settle quickly into being a senior player with us, and his experience has proved invaluable over these past six years.”
Watford FC confirms that club captain Tom Cleverley is retiring from football as a result of injury.
However, some exciting news will soon be announced jointly by the club and Tom.
