Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit for Chelsea star Mason Mount this summer, but they have just seen their third bid of £55m rejected by the Blues.

United warned that they could walk away from negotiations following their third bid for Chelsea’s midfielder if an agreement couldn’t be reached between the two clubs.

The third bid for Mount was worth £55m and improved on United’s first offers of £40m and £50m last week.

Chelsea appear to have come to some sort of an agreement with United however, as they are prepared to meet with the Red Devils to resolve the matter.

The Blues value Mount at £58m and expect some add-ons from United to sweeten the deal, which would bring the 24-year-old’s price tag to around £65m.

Another Chelsea forward who is on his way out this summer is Kai Havertz, who is expected to sign for Arsenal in the coming weeks for the same price the Blues are asking for Mount.

Mount struggled to make an impression for Chelsea last season and scored just three goals in 24 Premier League appearances.

Having played varied minutes under three different managers last season (Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard), Mount is keen for a move away from Stamford Bridge to a side who could give him more game time.

Personal terms aren’t said to be a problem for Mount and United, with the Englishman saying he will not sign a new deal at Chelsea this season even if the United deal falls through.

Despite the delays in talks, Erik Ten Hag remains confident his side can secure Mount’s talents to strengthen his squad ahead of next season’s return to the Champions League.
