Arsenal could make a surprise offer for Chelsea striker Kai Havertz this summer, with Mikel Arteta looking to strengthen the Gunners in depth ahead of their Champions League return.

The Gunners secured Champions League football for the first time since 2017 this season and Mikel Arteta will be looking to add to the Arsenal ranks ahead of a challenging season next year.

Kai Havertz is one player who knows all about Europe’s top competition, as the German secured Chelsea’s Champions League title in 2021 with his first half goal against Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino is taking over as Chelsea manager next season and he is looking for a more recognised number nine to lead the line, which could push Havertz out of the squad completely.

Arteta could make a surprise deal with Chelsea this summer for Havertz, as the 24-year old’s contract expires next season with the player showing no desire to extend his deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea have set a steep price on their Champions League winner amid Arsenal interest, as the blues will reportedly only let Havertz go for a fee in the region of £70 million.

Real Madrid were also reported to be interested in acquiring Havertz this summer, but Kylian Mbappe remains their priority after securing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea are also offloading both Romelu Lukaku and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, so in Arsenal could try and secure Havertz for a lower price than the £70m asking figure as Chelsea undergo a rebuild.

With Declan Rice also expected to join Arsenal in a £100m+ deal this summer, Arteta could be putting together a team of superstars ahead of the Gunners’ return to Europe’s Elite.
