2023 Royal Ascot Top Trainers: Sir Michael Stoute Have Sent Out 82 Royal Ascot Winners
77 year-old veteran trainer Sir Michael Stoute will head into Royal Ascot 2023 as the top trainer with 82 winners over the years. Therefore, anything the Newmarket-based hander sends to post should be respected as he tries to inch closer to the 90 winner mark.
Over the years, Stoute has also won the top trainers award at Royal Ascot six times, with the most recent in 2014 when he topped the tree with 4 wins.
You have to go way back to 1977 to find the first Royal Ascot winner for Sir Michael Stoute when Etienne Gerard won the Jersey Stakes at 25/1. While the most recent Stoute win at the Royal Meeting was with Dream Of Dreams in 2021 after winning the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (watch below).
Aidan O’Brien Is Hot On Stoute’s Heels With 81 Royal Ascot Winners
However, despite Stoute’s top Royal Ascot record you feel he’s a sitting duck for the powerful Aidan O’Brien yard as they are just one winner adrift on 81 overall successes.
O’Brien (53) was also the top trainer at the meeting in 2022 with 5 more Royal Ascot wins and that also become the 11th time he’s won the leading trainer award at this fixture.
The first Aidan O’Brien Royal Ascot win came in the 1997 Coventry Stakes with Harbour Master winning at 16/1 and his most recent being Broome, who landed the 2022 Hardwicke Stakes under Ryan Moore (watch below).
In fact, of O’Brien’s 81 Royal Ascot winners, Ryan Moore has ridden 37 of them.

John Gosden Is Next Best With 60 Royal Ascot Successes
Trainer John Gosden now doubles up with his son Thady but over the years the 72 year-old has a decent Royal Ascot record with 60 winners.
The yard has also come out as top trainer twice in the last three years with 6 winners in 2020 and 4 in 2021 to take the title. Gosden’s only other leading Royal Ascot trainer award came in 2012 (5 wins).
We can expect Frankie Dettori to get the bulk of the best Gosden rides again and he rode their last Royal Ascot winner in Inspiral in the 2022 Coronation Stakes (watch below). While of the 60 Gosden Royal Ascot winners, Frankie has ridden 19 of them.
The first Gosden winner at Royal Ascot came with a hose called Chicarica, who won the 1990 Chesham Stakes when ridden by Pat Eddery.
