Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to pull out of the race for Kai Havertz this summer unless Chelsea lower their asking price of €60m plus add-ons.

Italian transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Kai Havertz’ move to Real Madrid is ‘currently off’, and the situation may only change if Chelsea lower their asking price for the forward.

Madrid’s links to Havertz came to light this month amid the departure of Karim Benzema, however Harry Kane is seen to be the priority target.

It is reported that the Blues are after €60m plus add-ons for the German, and despite Havertz being appreciated by Carlo Ancelotti, Los Blancos are not willing to meet the current price tag.

Romano shared the latest on Havertz’ links to Madrid on his Twitter account.

“Real Madrid have no intention to pay big fee for Kai Havertz. He’s appreciated by Ancelotti but no plans to spend €60m plus add-ons requested by Chelsea.” he tweeted.

“Negotiations currently off, could only change if price tag will be lower later in the window.”

Havertz joined the Blues from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in September 2020 for a reported fee of around £80million.

Despite some iconic moments such as scoring the winner in the Champions League final in his first season with the club, his move has mostly been underwhelming.

Along with Raheem Sterling, Havertz finished the season as Chelsea’s top scorer with nine goals, as well as one assist to go with it, as the Stamford Bridge club finished 12th in the Premier League.

His current contract with the club runs until the summer of 2025, therefore if a move is not secured this summer – he is likely to have a major role to play for the club over the next two seasons.
