Netherlands to Win and Both to Score

The last four of the Nations League gets underway on Wednesday as the Netherlands go toe-to-toe with Croatia in Rotterdam.

The hosts enjoyed a promising World Cup campaign in Qatar before crashing out in the quarters, which now seems like a lifetime ago after a gruelling tail end of the season.

The compressed schedule, which Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong heavily criticised ahead of this weekend, could translate to a slow, sluggish affair despite being a high stakes fixture.

Croatia did indeed out-do their opponents by reaching the semi-finals, but the Dutch will relish being back on home soil and have lost just once in their previous five.

Croatia meanwhile have prevailed just twice using the same metric, so we are siding with the Netherlands to advance to the final in a game where both teams should find the net.

Spain vs Italy Under 2.5 Goals

Historically this would have been a mouth-watering fixture for any occasion, but recent history has not been kind on these powerhouses of international football.

Italy were famously absent in Qatar despite winning the Euros just a year before, and although the Italians topped a bizarre, low scoring National League group consisting of England and Germany, they remain in transition.

Luis Enrique’s resignation after Morocco dumped La Roja out of the World Cup means Luis de la Fuente will lead the new generation, but he has so far overseen a mixed bag of results having fallen to defeat against Scotland in his second game in charge.

We thought it best to skip predicting a winner in this particular encounter, with the direction of both nations somewhat unclear at this moment in time.

Therefore, we preferred to analyse the goals market which revealed some notable stats for both sides. Three of Spain’s previous five have seen under 2.5 goals, while Italy’s last five fixtures have gone above that mark on just two occasions.
