West Ham are reportedly keen on a move for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez this summer in a bid to replace the outgoing Declan Rice.

Ajax are demanding £45m for their Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez this summer, who has emerged as a target for West Ham, per the Guardian.

The Hammers have drafted up a list with several options to replace the outgoing Declan Rice, but Alvarez is said to be high in the pecking order.

Rice is set to depart this summer after leading David Moyes’ side to European glory, lifting the Europa Conference League title as the club’s captain on Wednesday evening.

Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha have also reportedly emerged as targets for Moyes’ side.

Ward-Prowse is expected to leave the Saints this summer following their relegation, and Palhinha is unlikely to come cheap after arriving at Craven Cottage for just £20m last summer.

Ajax are believed to be prepared to sell Alvarez, but would require £40m, as well as £5m in add-ons to part ways with the Mexico international.

Chelsea made an approach for the 25-year-old last summer, but were stopped in their tracks when the Eredivisie side rejected their bid.

Alvarez has been a mainstay in the Ajax side since arriving from Mexican outfit America in 2017.

This term, he has made 44 appearances, scoring on four occasions as well as assisting three goals.

During his six year spell at the club, he has won the Eredivisie twice, as well as the Dutch Cup.

He is also one of the first names on the team sheet for the Mexican national side. At the age of just 25, he has already amassed 62 appearances for his country.
