North Londoners Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Premier League champions Manchester City over the potential transfer of Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Manchester City over a potential move for Joao Cancelo this summer.
Despite the pair being Premier League title-rivals throughout the season, the Gunners have a recent history of signing players from City.
Last summer, Mikel Arteta secured the signatures of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko – helping them in their push for Champions League qualification.
But now, the Gunners have reportedly opened talks with Pep Guardiola’s side over another transfer – this time Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo, who spent the latter half of this season on loan with Bayern Munich, is expected to depart the Etihad this summer after falling out-of-favour under Guardiola.
“It’s another Manchester City player they [Arsenal] are interested in, it’s Joao Cancelo. We know that he was on loan at Bayern Munich. Bayern didn’t take up the option to buy him on a permanent basis.” Dharmesh Sheth said on Sky Sports.
“He has still got two years left on his contract, so he won’t come cheap.
“Early suggestions are there is a gap in valuation in early verbal talks between the two clubs about what Manchester City want and what Arsenal would be prepared to offer.”

Cancelo joined City from Juventus back in 2019, winning two Premier League titles, two EFL Cups, and the Community Shield during his time in Manchester.
His exceptional performances under Guardiola also saw him named in the PFA Premier League team of the year in 2020/21 and 2021/22.
He has already won two league titles this term, one with Bayern and one with City, but may also earn a Champions League medal if Guardiola’s side achieve an historic treble.
After winning the Bundesliga with Bayern, he has now won four different European first division titles – having previously won the Premier League, Serie A and Liga Portugal.
