In the latest Manchester United transfer news, the Red Devils’ main target Kim Min-jae has also been identified as a potential transfer target for Champions League side Newcastle.

Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Newcastle are interested in Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

The Italian journalist also stated that the South Korean defender is Manchester United‘s main target ahead of the summer transfer window.

However, the Red Devils are also reportedly scouring the French market in order to identify a ‘plan B’, in case they are unable to secure the signature of Kim.

Romano revealed the transfer news over on his Twitter account.

“Manchester United have Kim Min-jae on their list since October and remains the main target. Release clause, only valid in July as United are in contact with agents; Newcastle are informed too.” he tweeted.

“Understand Man Utd are also monitoring the French market for plan B options.”

United’s interest in the defender comes amid the likely departures of central-defenders Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

The Red Devils have long been interested in Kim, even when the Korean plied his trade out in China.

However, they may face serious competition from Newcastle now, as the Magpies have a huge transfer budget, as well as Champions League qualification.

Last month, Kim’s entourage confirmed that United were interested in the central-defender, but that no concrete contact had been made.

“It’s not true that a deal is close with Manchester United.” they told Star News Korea.

“There is no hurry for the future. United have been interested in Kim since he was in China, we only spoke but I repeat: there has been no concrete contact.”
