The former France international joined Madrid from hometown club Lyon back in 2009, and has made 657 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring an impressive 353 goals. He’ll now leave after becoming one of the club’s most decorated players of all time.

Benzema has won LaLiga four times, and lifted the Champions League on five occasions during a trophy-laden tenure in the Spanish capital.

Reports coming out of Saudi Arabia say the 35-year-old has reached an agreement with reigning Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad, who are managed by former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Benzema will now join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East and could also be joined there by Luka Modric.

Scoring 30 goals and assisting six more, he has enjoyed a successful final season and could play in the club’s last league game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday evening.

Real’s statement said: “Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club.”
