Davis Riley sets -5 clubhouse target followed closely by Wallace, Spieth

In scorching hot conditions at Muirfield Village, Davis Riley opened with a 67 to finish atop the leaderboard after round one for the second year in a row – searching for just his second PGA Tour title.

The 26-year-old birdied three of his last four holes to edge ahead of Matt Wallace (-4) and a host of golfers at three-under including Danny Willett, Shane Lowry and Jordan Spieth.

The first round didn’t come without drama however, as Xander Schauffele finished with a five-over 77 and Chad Ramey made a 13 on the ninth – the highest score ever recorded on a hole at Muirfield Village.

Rahm positioned well to make charge, work to do for McIlroy
