EMILY UPJOHN (system – John Gosden, winner in first-time hood on latest start)
EMILY UPJOHN, desperately unlucky not to win last year’s Oaks, won well in the first-time hood at Ascot on Champions Day when we last saw her. The Gosden yard has a fine record with first-time hooded winners who bid to follow up on turf, with nine of the 21 qualifiers scoring for a profit of £19.44 to a £1 stake. She can out her course and distance experience to good use by landing the Coronation Cup.
EPSOM 3.45
MASEKELA (system – Mick Muscotti-owned runners, Epsom)
I have a database of over 1000 betting systems and one of the more obscure ones was brought to my attention by my former racing radio colleague Rory Delargy. It concerns owner Mick Muscotti, who loves to have a winner at Epsom. His 20 runners at this venue have produced seven winners for a profit of £24.83 to a £1 level stake at SP, with 11 of the 13 beaten horses finishing second, third or fourth. MASEKELA, fourth of 17 when 66-1 for last year’s Derby, finished well beaten in Group 3 company at Newmarket on his reappearance/first start since gelded but fared better in a hot York handicap next time. The return to Epsom will suit and he’s worth an each-way interest.

CATTERICK 6.25
NOO POINT (system – Blue Point, debutants, colts)
Progeny of the sire Blue Point have a six from 30 record on their racecourse debuts, with the colts winning six of their 22 starts for a profit of £14.70 to a £1 level stake at SP. Ten of the beaten horses finished second or third and Archie Watson’s NOO POINT looks interesting on his debut. This £130,000 Breeze-Up buy should know his job and his trainer saddled a 10-1 winning juvenile newcomer at Yarmouth yesterday.
DONCASTER 6.45
WANDERING ROCKS (system – James Fanshawe, Doncaster)
Since the beginning of 2015, James Fanshawe is 49 from 281 (17.4% strike-rate) with his runners on Town Moor and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £59.10 to a £1 level stake at SP. WANDERING ROCKS was ridden closer to the strong early pace than ideal when sixth of seven at Hamilton last time and will hopefully be ridden with more restraint today.
