Use our 2023 Irish 1000 Guineas trends to find the best profiles based on past winners of today’s big race. It’s another Group One Curragh prize that trainer Aidan O’Brien has a stack of wins (10), but this year he’ll have to topple the hot Dermot Weld favourite Tahiyra if he’s to make it win number 11.

Irish 1000 Guineas Trends to Help You Find The 2023 Winner
The Irish 1000 Guineas follows hot on the heels of the 2000 Guineas with this fillies Group One set to be run today (Sunday 28th May) at the Curragh.
12 months ago we saw the Dermot Weld yard win the prize with Homeless Song (watch below) and that provided the veteran Irish handler with his fifth Irish 1000 Guineas – with his first coming way back in 1982 with the Walter Swinburn-ridden Prince’s Polly.
It’s also no shocker that it’s a top Irish race that a certain Aidan O’Brien has farmed during his career – winning the pot 10 times, including in 3 of the last 4 renewals.
This year also looks another Weld/O’Brien showdown with last year’s winning trainer Dermot Weld looking to hold the upper hand with his classy Tahiyra, who was last seen running a close second in the English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Respect Horses That Ran in The Last 6 Weeks
First up when looking at the main Irish 1000 Guineas trends is to look for a recent run.
73% of the last 11 winners had run in the last 6 weeks, which is a plus for recent English 1000 Guineas runner-up and hot favourite – Tahiyra, who was only out 21 days ago.
Eternal Silence and Breege are the two that come here off a break.
73% Of the Last 11 Winners Drawn Between Stalls 6-11
Being drawn in the middle has seemed to help in finding the Irish 1000 Guineas winner too, with stalls 6-11 having the best record of late. This was backed up again last year with Homeless Song winning from stall 11.
Note Horses That Have Run Between 4-8 Times
Next up is to look for horses that have run between 4-8 times in the past. Most will fit the bill here, but if you are looking for a reason to take on Tahiyra then she’s only had 3 previous outings.
You Send Me, Eternal Silence and Tarawa are others with just the three past runs.
Previous Curragh Form Isn’t a Must-Have
With 7 of the last 11 Irish 1000 Guineas winners having not yet raced at the Curragh then previous form at the top Irish track isn’t a ‘must-have’.
Those that are yet to race at the course are – Tarawa and Breege.

70% Of the Last 10 Winners Were Placed 1st or 2nd Last Time
Three of the last 10 Irish 1000 Guineas winners were unplaced last time out, but the bigger stat here has seen 70% finish either 1st or 2nd in their last race, with four of those winning in their most recent run.
Those that finished in the top 2 last time are You Send Me, Tarawa and Tahiyra.
Respect Anything Trainer Aidan O’Brien Runs
With a massive 10 wins in the Irish 1000 Guineas no trainer has won this prize more times than Aidan O’Brien. Therefore, it goes without saying he’s a man to follow in this fillies’ Classic and this year will be pinning his hopes on Meditate, Dower House and Never Ending Story as he goes in search of win number 11.
Jockey Ryan Moore Has Ridden 3 Of O’Brien’s Last 5 Winners
With jockey Ryan Moore having ridden three of the recent five Aidan O’Brien Irish 1000 Guineas winners, then anything he rides must be respected too. He’s likely to be on the Newmarket Guineas 6th Meditate.

What Is the Irish 1000 Guineas Favourites Record Like?
It’s not too bad, but in a race that Aidan O’Brien has dominated it’s not mind-blowing. In the last 10 years we’ve had 3 winning Irish 1000 Guineas favourites go in – but the last one was Hermosa in 2019.
4 Of the Last 11 Irish 1000 Guineas Winners Also Ran In The Newmarket Equivalent
In recent years we’ve also seen two English 1000 Guineas winners land the Irish version – Winter (2017) and Hermosa (2019), while 4 of the last 11 winners contested that Newmarket Classic.
This year’s winner Mawj isn’t running at the Curragh his Sunday, but the runner-up Tahiyra is (watch below). We’ve also got the 6th Meditate back in action.
