Brigadier Gerard Stakes Trends to Help You Find The 2023 Winner
The Group Three Brigadier Gerard Stakes is the big midweek UK horse racing this evening and the added draw is the return of the 2022 Epsom Derby winner Desert Crown.
Desert Crown has not been on the track since running away with the fourth English Classic last season after suffering a foot injury after.
However, the Nathaniel colt has been patiently nursed back and is ready to put his unbeaten (3-from-3) record on the line in the Racehorse Lotto Brigadier Gerard Stakes (7:42pm) today at Sandown (25th May)
It’s also a race his trainer Sir Michael Stoute loves to target as the veteran handler eyes his 13th win in the race and at this stage Desert Crown will face seven others that include last year’s Coronation Cup hero Hukum.

Stoute Is The Sandown Man In Brigadier Gerard
The Brigadier Gerard Stakes has been dominated by trainer Sir Michael Stoute over the years as the Newmarket-based yard have mopped up an incredible 12 wins in the Sandown race.
It was back in 1991 when Stagecraft won for Stoute that started off his love for taking this prize and since then he’s added another 11 successes, with his most recent coming only last year (2022) with Bay Bridge.
4 Year-olds Have Won 70% Of The Last 20 Runnings
Another Brigadier Gerard trend to respect is to keep the 4 year-olds on your side. This is because 14 of the last 20 winners have been aged 4, including three of the last four and 7 of the last 10.
Last year’s winner Bay Bridge was also aged 4 and so the 2023 Brigadier Gerard Stakes runners ticking this age stat this year are Cash, Claymore and Desert Crown
15 Of The last Winners Came From The Top 3 In The Betting
The Brigadier Gerard betting guide has also been a decent way to find the winner of the Sandown race. 75% of the last 20 winners hailed from the top three in the betting, so this is another plus for the well-fancied Desert Crown.

Look For Horses That Won Between 2-4 Times Before
Next up is to look for horses that have won between 2-4 times in their careers. Most till fit the bill here, but looking at the 8 possible Brigadier Gerard runners, Solid Stone (8 wins), Hukum (9), Chichester (5) and Cash (1) all fall down.
Anything Ryan Moore Rides Should Be Respected
Along with the top record trainer Sir Michael Stoute has in the race, jockey Ryan Moore has also farmed this race – winning it 7 times.
The first of Moore’s wins came on the 2010 Derby winner Workforce, with the most recent Bay Bridge 12 months ago. Six of Ryan Moore’s seven Brigadier Gerard winners were also trained by Sir Michael Stoute and he’s riding for him again on Solid Stone this year.

What Is The Brigadier Gerard Stakes Favourites Record Like?
The Brigadier Gerard favourite has won 25% of the last 20 renewals, but they’ve been on a bit of a drought of late.
We’ve not had a winning market leader since 2018 when Poet’s Word rewarded short-priced backers at 4/6, while we’ve only had 2 favourites take this Group Three since 2013.
That said, if the favourite doesn’t win, they are never far away – 80% of the last 20 have finished in the top 3.
This year’s Brigadier Gerard favourite will be Desert Crown.
