Scheffler, Conners and Hovland combine to set -5 clubhouse target
Scottie Scheffler followed up Thursday’s first-ever bogey-free round at a major championship with a two-under 68 in improved conditions at Oak Hill.
The world number two tallied four birdies and two bogeys to head into the weekend at five-under, joined by Corey Conners and Viktor Hovland at the top of the leaderboard.
Conners matched Scheffler with a second round 68 and Hovland closed out with a birdie on 18 to mark an impressive 67 on the scorecard.
Round one leader Bryson DeChambeau sits two off the pace at three-under alongside Justin Suh, whilst Brooks Koepka remains firmly in the mix in the second major of the year.
According to golf betting sites, Scheffler remains the tournament favourite at 6/4, followed by Hovland at 4/1 and Conners at 13/2.
Is Rory McIlroy a potential sleeper pick?
Rory McIlroy, almost nine years on from his last major triumph at the PGA Championship in 2014, is priced at 18/1 after an encouraging one-under par second round 69.
According to the stats, McIlroy is fortunate to be sitting in his current position of tied-10th with the likes of fellow Irishman Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Keegan Bradley.
The 34-year-old’s putting has let him down significantly so far – ranking 115th after day one – compared to a slightly better 89th place off the tee.
Oak Hill will punish those who begin to stray wide off the tee, with tight driving corridors presenting an improved challenge to the field.
Over the last two days, McIlroy ranks fourth in approach play and 20th around the green. With a change of luck and confidence in his new Scotty Cameron, 18/1 looks valuable.
Rory – hear me out…
115th in putting, 89th OTT day 1
103rd OTT day 2
4th on approach 2 days, 20th ATGIt's an incredible effort to be level par, the battling qualities he's often been accused of lacking in majors when not at his best. Only 9 players ahead of him…

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka paired together in third round
Bryson and Brooks have finally been paired together in a major, with the pair’s past feud seemingly a distant memory after striking a bond since LIV’s introduction.
Koepka made five birdies in his final nine holes to shoot a four-under 66, sitting at odds of 9/1 and two-under par, just three shots off the lead. He came close at Augusta last month and will be hungry to get a taste of the major adrenaline once again.
The pair will tee off at 7.30pm BST or 2:30pm local time in New York.
