Leeds United managed to steal a draw late on at Elland Road against Newcastle, with a Rasmus Kristensen strike saving a point for the hosts who were reduced to ten men late on.

Leeds took a surprising advantage early on in the game, as captain Luke Ayling tapped in from close range after a Nick Pope save.

The hosts were given a golden opportunity to double their advantage after 25 minutes, as Joelinton pulled Junior Firpo down in the box to give Leeds a stonewall penalty.

Patrick Bamford couldn’t keep his cool from 12-yards out however, as the forward hit a weak penalty to Nick Pope’s right which the keeper saved with ease.

Things went from bad to worse for Leeds just a couple of minutes later, when Newcastle were awarded a penalty after Alexander Isak was brought down in the box with a reckless challenge.

Unlike Bamford before him, Wilson made no mistake from the spot and buried his penalty past Joel Robles in net to level the scores after half an hour.

Saturday afternoon was one full of penalties, as a third spot kick was awarded in the second half after Junior Firpo handled the ball in the box.

Wilson was handed the responsibilities yet again and he showed no nerves as he hammered the ball down the middle of the goal to give Newcastle an advantage for the first time in the game.

Leeds simply would not lie down however and Rasmus Kristensen hit a speculative shot from the edge of the area which took a huge deflection off Kieran Trippier, giving Leeds a goal they so desperately desired.

Junior Firpo was on a yellow card for much of the game on Saturday and it was quite a surprise he didn’t see red until he did, but in the 90th minute the Spaniard was eventually dismissed for a push on Anthony Gordon.

The last gasp point is huge for Leeds’ hopes of Premier League survival but may still be too little too late, as most bookmakers have the side priced at just 4/11 to drop down to the Championship this season.
