Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Nottingham Forest star, Brennan Johnson, despite the Welshman attracting interest from Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest are facing a tough relegation battle during their first season back in the Premier League, as they sit 16th in the table.

Leading marksman, Brennan Johnson, has scored 10 goals in all competitions and has been a bright spark during the Trees’ dim campaign.

Not only has the Forest attacker contributed with goals and assists, he has also appeared in every league match this season – not facing a single minute out through injury.

The 21-year-old has also established himself in the Wales national side, whilst also attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides.

Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing Johnson, however Nottingham Forest may be unwilling to sell their star man this summer.

The Magpies are having a superb season under Eddie Howe and look on track to finish in a top four place. European football has been absent from St. James park for over a decade but with the Toon sitting in third, the wait is finally over.

However, the club from Tyneside will face competition in their pursuit of Johnson as Aston Villa are also in the race to sign the Welshman.

The Villains have been superb under Unai Emery and have climbed up the table to a European place. Leading scorer, Ollie Watkins, has been pivotal for the Villa coach this season, scoring 14 league goals.

With Forest being reluctant to sell, both clubs may have to make a substantial offer to coax Johnson away from the City Ground.

If the Midlands-based side are unable to avoid relegation then a move for Johnson may be likely, as he has cemented himself in England’s top division.

A transfer fee is yet to be set, however with the forward being 21-years-old, a deal could cost up to £50m despite having little experience in the Premier League.
