Chelsea Handed Boost In Neymar Deal As Barcelona Drop Out Of Contention

Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star, Neymar Jr., after Barcelona are ruled out of re-signing the Brazilian.

Neymar is regarded as one of the best players in his generation, from his time in Barcelona where he contributed to 181 goals in 186 appearances. This saw him switch Spain for France, as he signed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 – making 173 appearances, so far.

This season has been a frustrating time for the 31-year-old, despite scoring 18 goals in 29 appearances, in all competitions. Neymar has been out of action since the beginning of February, after suffering an ankle injury against Lille.

Missing the last three months due to ankle surgery has surrounded the Brazilian’s future in doubt, as the club are unsure if he can return to his best.

Rumours linking the former Barcelona star with a move back to the Catalan side started to circulate, however, recent reports suggest that Xavi’s side will not attempt to sign the Brazil international.

However, there are still a host of clubs interested in Neymar, with Premier League giants, Chelsea emerging as shock contenders to land the tricky winger.

The Blues are enduring a horrific season, sacking Graham Potter after just six months in charge and the returning Frank Lampard has lost six out of the first seven matches.

Todd Boehly has spent over half a billion pounds since taking over the club, including the record breaking transfer that brought Enzo Fernandez to Stamford Bridge for £103m.

This huge transfer spend shows the American’s intention and could see a variety of players join the club this summer. Victor Osimhen, Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo have all been linked with a move to Chelsea, alongside Neymar.
