SWAPPED (system – Nicky Henderson, first run in a handicap hurdle)
Nicky Henderson has an excellent record with his handicap hurdle debutants, scoring with 125 of the 680 qualifiers since the beginning of 2003 (18.4% strike rate) for a very healthy profit of £116.61 to a £1 level stake at SP. SWAPPED also qualifies as a bet for me on another angle – Henderson runners on their first start after a wind operation (four of the nine qualifiers have won this year) – and he has sound claims on his first run in a handicap.
THIRSK 7.40
INDIAN CREAK (system – field size)
Jack Channon’s INDIAN CREAK has a fine record in races over 5f-7f in single figure line-ups on turf, with his latest all-the-way success at Windsor taking his record under such conditions to 1141257221241 (5-13) for a profit of £14.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. The sprint course at Thirsk has been strongly favouring his running style this year and he can follow up.
CHELMSFORD 9.00
CAPTAIN PUGWASH (system – Tony Carroll, stall 1 runners at Chelmsford)
Tony Carroll has a nine from 42 record with his stall 1 runners at Chelmsford and backing them all would have returned a profit of £32.30 to a £1 level stake at SP. CAPTAIN PUGWASH, has won three times at the Essex venue, twice over 1m 2f, and can make the most of his inside berth.
