Top Irish jumps trainer Willie Mullins is ‘Coming To America’ this weekend as he’s sending his Coral Cup 4th Scaramanga to run in the $150,000 Iroquois Hurdle at Percy Warner Park on Saturday.

Paul Townend and Scaramanga Head To The US

Gold Cup winning jockey Paul Townend is also making the trip over to ride in the 2023 Iroquois Hurdle. He’ll head to the Nashville, Tennessee racecourse to partner the Mullins runner Scaramanga – a horse he’s actually never ridden in a race.

That said, Scaramanga has only been with Wille Mullins for his last three races, having previously been in the care of Paul Nicholls and before that James Fanshawe when racing on the flat.

Mullins is yet to win a race with him, but looks to have a great chance of breaking that duck in the US this weekend.

The Iroquois Hurdle is named after the first American-bred horse win the Epsom Derby.

What Date & Time Is The 2023 Iroquios Hurdle?

Scaramanga Last Seen Running 4th In The Coral Cup

The 2023 Cheltenham Festival was the last time racing fans saw Scaramanga on the track. It was a solid run too, when 4th in the Coral Cup – beaten just 10 lengths by Langer Dan (watch below).

On that run, and off level weights in the Iroquois Hurdle on Saturday, then Scaramanga will be expected to take all the beating and is likely to go off a warm favourite with the best UK bookmakers.

Danny Mullins Also Has A Ride In The Percy Warner $150,000 Race

Top Irish jockey Danny Mullins will be another familar face in the field of 8 runners in the Iroquois Hurdle as he partners Ask Paddington for trainer Keri Brion.

Mullins is no stranger to riding the horse in the US – having partnered the 9 year-old in his last two races, including when third to Hewick in the US Grand National back in October.

US Trainer Jack Fisher Has Won The Last Three Runnings Of The Iroquois Hurdle

The US-based Jack Fisher yard have won the Iroquios Hurdle seven times over the years – including 4 of the last 5 runnings – and are back for more this Saturday.

Snap Decision has been responsible for the last two of those Fisher wins (watch below) and at the age of 9 is hunting a famous three-timer in the race, with regular rider Graham Watters doing the steering again.

You feel the current champ will be Scaramanga’s biggest threat.

Fisher also has City Dreamer in the race, who will be ridden by Jamie Bargary, who many UK horse racing fans will know as riding a lot for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.
