Billy Joe Saunders has announced that he will return to boxing. The former two-weight world champion hasn’t fought since his defeat two years ago to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but is set to make his highly anticipated ring return before the end of the year.
Billy Joe Saunders Set For Ring Return Later This Year
Following a period of over two years out of the ring, Billy Joe Saunders has announced that he will return to the ring later this year.
The former two-weight world champion was last seen in action against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in their super-middleweight unification back in May 2021. Saunders lost to ‘Canelo’ for the first time in his professional boxing career and hasn’t been seen in a ring since.
However, the return of the two-weight world champion is imminent. The 33-year-old announced on his social media yesterday that he will return to the ring before the end of 2023. Boxing fans are excited for the return of Billy Joe, who will have his sights set on becoming a three-time world champion.
In his last fight against ‘Canelo’, Saunders was boxing well and winning rounds. However, he was stopped in the eighth round by the great Mexican, who was the overriding favourite going into the bout with the best UK sports betting sites. Now it seems that Saunders is back in training and is ready to make his highly anticipated return to action. It is unknown what division Saunders will return at, but it is likely to be super-middleweight again.
At 168-pounds, there are so many great fights for Saunders. The rematch with Chris Eubank Jr could be a potentially mega-fight down the line, depending on how Eubank does in his rematch with Liam Smith.
Some other names such as Caleb Plant, Edgar Berlanga, John Ryder, Demetrius Andrade and Zach Parker are being thrown about as potential opponents for Saunders.
Time will tell who Saunders does indeed fight, and whether or not he actually does return before the year is out. One thing is for sure, whoever Saunders does return to fight this year, he will likely be the favourite with the best online gambling sites.
