The perpetual cycle of drama continues to rumble on at PSG, with the latest controversy surrounding Lionel Messi and a supposed unplanned trip to Saudi Arabia dominating social media today. Following a two-week suspension, and the confirmation that the seven-time Ballon D’or winner is expected to leave in the summer, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the blame does not entirely rest the player’s shoulders.
Fabrizio Romano Suggests PSG Are Also to Blame
At face value, the news surrounding Lionel Messi appears to be fairly straightforward. A trip to Saudi Arabia with his family, made without consulting PSG beforehand, has led the club to take surprisingly drastic measures.
The 35-year-old now faces a two-week suspension from all footballing activities, including first-team training and using any of the club facilities.
Argentina’s World Cup winner was immortalised at the end of last year after lifting the one trophy that has eluded him, but this latest chapter in a turbulent end to a glittering career, has almost certainly signalled the end of his short-lived stint in Paris.
However, as further details emerge over the unfolding feud, it appears the club may also bare some of the blame. Fabrizio Romano has been on the case throughout the day, also revealing Jorge Messi, the player’s father, communicated their intention to leave last month.
However, the Italian transfer insider has also provided Messi’s side of the story, which suggests the unauthorised trip has been scheduled twice before, and on both occasions the Argentine was forced to remain put in the French capital.
He continues by saying Messi’s understanding is that he had 2-3 days to travel after the 3-1 defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday, which he believes was communicated to the club.
This is further compounded by the fact he was already on the plane when PSG changed their tone, resulting in the sour scenario that is now unfolding.

While the football world awaits for further details to be divulged, one thing seems certain – Messi will be donning another shirt by the start of next season.
A heavily rumoured fairytale return to Barcelona is of course the romantic choice, but whether the Blaugrana can create enough surplus in their wage budget remains a mystery.
