What Horses Is Rachael Blackmore Riding on Day 3 Of The 2023 Punchestown Festival?
Thursday 27th April 2023
- 3:40 Specialist Group Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 88-123) 2m RTV: GENTLEMAN JOE @ SP
Former AW flat winner for trainer Joseph Tuite but is yet to score over hurdles from 4 tries. Last seen running 7th (of 19) at Fairyhouse on the 10th April and can be expected to have improved for that after 3 1/2 months off. Should have more to come but looks a competitive enough race.
- 4:15 Pigsback.com Handicap Chase (Grade B) (4yo+) 2m RTE2:Â THE FOLKES TIARA @ SP
Has picked up three silver medals from his last four runs and the last of those was a solid second to the useful Final Orders at Leopardstown on Boxing Day. Has been freshened up since but is still hunting his first win under rules. Is also running 5lbs out of the handicap here, despite only having 10st to carry.
- 5:25 Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+) 2m7½f RTE2: SUMMERVILLE BOY @ 14/1
Won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival. Now 11 years-old but is still loving his racing when winning last time out – beating Asterion Forlonge by 4 1/2 lengths at Thurles. In again at the deep end here though – taking on some of the best staying hurdlers around, including the winner of this race for the last two years Klassical Dream and the Stayers’ Hurdle third – Teahupoo, who is rated 18lbs higher than Summerville Boy.
- 6:00 Conway Piling Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) (4yo+) 2m7½f RTE2: LETS GO CHAMP @ 10/1
Trained by Henry De Bromhead and would have a decent chance of giving Blackmore a nice spin here. Won last time out at Tipperary by 8 1/2 lengths and that was only his third career start. He kept on well that day over 2m4f to suggest the step up in trip here to just short of 3m will be fine.
- 7:10 Close Brothers Irish EBF Mares Handicap Chase (5yo+) 2m5f RTV: QUEEN JANE @ SP
Promising mare that will come into this race on a three-timer after wins at Clonmel and Limerick. She’s 2-from-2 over fences and has shown she’s versatile in terms of trip having won over 2m 1 1/2f and also 2m4f. She looks one of Blackmore’s best chances of a day 3 winner.
