David Moyes has shown his desire to keep Declan Rice at West Ham, with rumours over a possible departure circulating across the country.

The England international has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, earning the captaincy at West Ham, at only 24-years-old. This has cemented his place amongst the league’s best and in Gareth Southgate’s national team selection.

Rice has played 236 times in a Hammers shirt, contributing to 27 goals and is regarded as one of the best academy graduates to play for the club.

However, with the consistent quality in his performances, a host of clubs have shown interest in the West Ham skipper. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side are the reported favourites to sign the midfielder, in a move that could cost up to £100m.

David Moyes has spoke about the situation surrounding his star man, claiming that if Rice believes that West Ham are the ‘best club for him’ then he expects to be managing the player next season.

Moyes said: “My hope is that Dec thinks West Ham is the best place for him to be — and if somebody doesn’t come up with the right amount of money, it will continue to be the place he is as well. The club have made that pretty plain.”

It is unclear whether the English midfielder will be playing in east London next season, as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City have all been linked with Rice.

His relationship with the players from the England squad may play a huge part in the move, as the likes of Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell may be key should he decide to join Chelsea.

If the Hammers can clinch the Europa Conference League trophy then that may sway their captain, but failure to do so could see the end of his time at West Ham.
