Rachael Blackmore With Four Rides On Day 1 At Punchestown

After a decent showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and Grand National Festival at Aintree. Blackmore is widely regarded as one of the world’s best jockeys and will be hopeful of a few winners this week at Punchestown.

On Day 1, Rachael Blackmore has four rides on Tuesday 25th April. These rides include Journey With Me, who is the current betting favourite in the Champion Novice Chase at 6.35pm. Blackmore, who won the 2021 Grand National with Minella Times, also has three other rides along with Journey With Me on Day 1 at Punchestown.

She’s also got Ladybank for trainer Henry De Bromhead in the Mares Novice Hurdle (3.40pm), Watch The Weather in the Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle (4.50pm) and Magic Daze in the William Hill Handicap Chase (5.25pm).

Blackmore is also one of the betting favourites with leading bookmaker 10Bet to be the 2023 Punchestown Festival top jockey.

What Horses Is Rachael Blackmore Riding On Day 1 Of The 2023 Punchestown Festival?

Tuesday 25th April 2023

LADYBANK (Howden Insurance Brokers Mares Novice Hurdle – 3.40pm): @ 8/1 with 10Bet

Rachael Blackmore’s first ride on Day 1 of the Punchestown Festival sees the former Gold Cup winner saddle up on Ladybank in the Mares Novice Hurdle. The 5-year-old is priced at 8/1 to win the opener in Ireland on Tuesday, having won around the Punchestown before at a huge price of 40/1.

The Henry De Bromhead-trained mare has only raced three times over hurdles, winning in January at Punchestown in a dead-heat with Princess Zoe. This race if four furlongs shorter, and Ladybank looks a certain contender here in the opener.

WATCH THE WEATHER (Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle – 4.50pm): @ 33/1 with 10Bet

Blackmore’s second ride on Day 1 of the Punchestown Festival sees the champion jockey ride Watch The Weather. He is a 33/1 outsider for the race in terms of the best Punchestown odds in a race that looks highly competitive.

The form of Watch The Weather is slightly worrying of late, but he has won two hurdle races before back-to-back last year at Cork and Wexford respectively. You wouldn’t put it past Blackmore pulling off a huge ride here and claiming a victory on Day 1 of the Punchestown Festival.

MAGIC DAZE (William Hill Handicap Chase – 5.25pm): @ 28/1 with 10Bet

Blackmore’s third ride on Day 1 at Punchestown sees her saddle Magic Daze in the William Hill Champion Chase. This race is a six horse field, with Magic Daze one of the huge outsiders. Energumene heads the betting at short odds, with the likes of Chacun Pour Soi, Blue Lord and Gentleman De Mee also preferred in the betting odds.

Magic Daze does however have two wins and two seconds under her belt of late, prior to refusing to run at the Cheltenham Festival. She was last seen winning at Naas in February in a Mares Chase listed race where she triumphed by almost four lengths. A good horse but Blackmore certainly has her work cut out here.

JOURNEY WITH ME (Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase – 6.35pm): @ 11/4 with 10Bet

Blackmore’s fourth and final ride on Day 1 sees her take the reigns aboard Journey With Me. This 7-year-old is the current betting favourite for the Champion Novice Chase ahead of the likes of Sir Gerhard and Appreciate It in the betting market.

The Henry De Bromhead-trained gelding has two wins and a runner-up in his last three starts. Both of those wins came at Naas, with a second place finish at Punchestown in January. He was unlucky not to win at Punchestown and certainly looks the form horse of the race here.

Definitely Blackmore’s biggest chance of a winner on Day 1 of the Punchestown Festival as the favourite with the best horse racing betting sites.
