Former Manchester United keeper Ben Foster has given his thoughts on Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, claiming the Spanish shot-stopper is not a ‘long-term solution’.
The Spaniard has been given a second chance under Graham Potter, after falling out-of-favour at the Blues last season. However, many supporters were quick to criticise the 28-year-old after he failed to save Everton’s last-minute equaliser on Saturday afternoon.
Kepa has kept eight clean sheets in the Premier League this season, mirroring the poor performances that the rest of his Chelsea teammates have shown. The Blues sit tenth in the table and are 11 points adrift the top four places, even after spending half a billion pounds over the last two transfer windows.
One man that has been vocal online about Kepa’s performances in a Chelsea shirt, is former Manchester United player turned YouTuber, Ben Foster. The 39-year-old retired at the end of last season and has enjoyed success with his ‘Fozcast’ podcast and various social media channels.
Foster and Kepa have shared a slight history together, as the Spanish international kept out the former Watford keeper’s headed effort and the two embraced at full-time.

The former Watford goalie said: “Let’s talk about Everton’s equaliser because I think Kepa should save it, a top goalkeeper saves that.”
“This is a big moment, we’re in injury-time so if he saves that, it’s 2-1, three points, boom, everyone is happy. These are the fine margins but I think a top goalie has to save that.”
Since retiring, Foster has been supportive of current goalkeepers, showing a lot of sympathy due to his understanding of the position. However, despite this sympathy the Englishman revealed that Kepa may not be the man to help Chelsea get back to their Champions League status.
“It’s a slightly awkward one so I’ve got a bit of sympathy but you need to make those big saves. He fell a little bit short. I don’t think Kepa is the right guy for it, full stop. I don’t think he’s the long-term solution.”
