According to reports, Arsenal are planning an out of window move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, as they look to strengthen for next season.

The Gunners are enjoying one of their best seasons in recent years, as they sit top of the Premier League and are in their first title race since Arsene Wenger’s exit. Mikel Arteta faced a lot of scrutiny during the opening stages of his reign, but the Spaniard has transformed the north London side.

Throughout the January window it was clear that a midfield reinforcement was needed at the Emirates, especially after Thomas Partey suffered a substantial injury. Brighton’s Moises Caicedo looked set to swap the seaside for the capital, but the clubs couldn’t agree a fee.

Instead Arteta’s side signed Chelsea midfielder Jorginho for £12m, with the Italian falling out-of-favour under Graham Potter. The Italian switched from the blue side of London to the red side and has played the full 90 minutes in his last three matches.

However, the Gunners boss is reportedly still looking to strengthen his midfield and Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic is top of his list. The Serbian has been monitored by Europe’s elite for the last few seasons, with links to Manchester United and Arsenal being constant.

He has made over 300 appearances for the Serie A giants, contributing to 123 goals from a deeper midfield position. His consistent level of performance alongside his experience on the European stage could make him a perfect option for Arsenal.
