Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, with reports saying he could ‘easily’ move should the Hammers be relegated.

The 26-year-old drew the attention of Premier League sides after he impressed for French side, Lyon. In the 2020-21 season he was voted the best foreign player in Ligue 1 and played 80 matches in all competitions. This also caused his national team Brazil to take notice, reaching 39 caps so far .

The Brazilian signed for the East London side during the summer transfer window last year, the club’s record transfer fee at £51m. However he has failed to find the form that he showed at his previous employers and has faced a lot of time on the sideline through injury.

Making only 16 appearances in the league has meant that supporters are yet to see the best of Paqueta, which could be why David Moyes’ side are sat in 17th place. The possibility of relegation is one that West Ham players and fans didn’t expect and it could see a lot of players leave.

Should the West Ham midfielder choose to depart then he will not be short on options for his next club. One side that have shown an early interest in his services is Antonio Conte’s Tottenham. Reports say that during the summer window we could ‘easily’ see Paqueta sign for Spurs.

The north London side are having an indifferent season, sitting in fourth place and are four points ahead of fifth place, Newcastle. Recent victories over Chelsea and Manchester City have brought some joy back to Spurs supporters, but winning silverware for the first time in almost 15 years is arguably the main priority.

If that doesn’t happen this season then signing Paqueta over the summer could make it a reality next season. However as he has recently signed and his midfield partner Declan Rice is set to leave, then it would cost Daniel Levy more than he may be willing to pay.
