Eddie Hearn believes Jake Paul’s inclusion in WNC world rankings would be ‘not right’

World Boxing Council President Maurico Sulaiman announced that if Paul beats Fury in Saudi Arabia, he will receive a world ranking in the cruiserweight division.

Boxers currently dominating the cruiserweight rankings incluide Ilunga Makabu, Noel Gevor, Thabiso Mchunu, Badou Jack and Sergey Kovalev.

Hearn disagreed with the decision to let the 26-year-old internet phenomenon enter the world rankings but understands why it will happen.

“Sometimes governing bodies have to live in that commercial world as well. Tommy Fury’s a proper fighter and Jake Paul would make a statement if he won that fight.

“Not a statement that he can challenge for a world title, but, ultimately, there’s a little bit of publicity in there.

“Is it right? Not really. Because there’s fighters that deserve to be in the top 15 much more than Jake Paul, but it’s the world we live in.”

Eddie Hearn predicts Jake Paul to beat Tommy Fury by KO

According to boxing betting sites, Jake Paul is 13/5 to knock Tommy Fury out and win the fight – exactly what Hearn has predicted.

“Mentally, he’ll break Tommy Fury. I think he’ll mess with Tommy mentally, and I just think by the time they get in the ring, if they do get in the ring, I think Tommy will be defeated before the fight’s even taken place. And I think will win by knockout.”

After two cancelled bouts previously, the showdown between Paul and Fury will finally take place this Sunday.
