Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi is planning an extraordinary £3.1bn bid for the ownership of Premier League giants Totttenham Hotspur, according to reports.

Najafi is the co-founder of MSP Sports Capital, an organisation that ‘invests in sports teams, leagues, and businesses with ambitious aims’. Reports say that the Iranian-American is working to create the structure of the colossal bid in order to approach Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy with it in the coming weeks.

The billionaire had previously tried to purchase Everton and even travelled to Goodison Park for their Premier League match against Southampton. But the Toffees were told to stay clear of Najafi due to ‘threats to their security’ and the deal never materialised.

It is believed that Najafi and his team will be contributing 70% of the £3bn, with the other 30% coming from external backers from the Gulf and specifically Abu Dhabi. Spurs fans will welcome this news as it may bring an end to their current ownership, ENIC, who have failed to get fans on side.

ENIC is under co-ownership to Lewis and Levy, owning 70.6% and 29.4% respectively , after they purchased 26% from Lord Alan Sugar for £21.9m back in 2000. Their reign at the club has been applauded for the development of a state of the art stadium and for Spurs regularly reaching Champions League qualification.

However, supporters have begun to show their frustrations with the current owners as Tottenham’s last trophy came way back in 2008, when they won the League Cup. This has been taken as a lack of ambition, especially with local rivals Chelsea spending over £5oom following their own recent takeover.
