Leigh Wood Vows To Knock Mauricio Lara Out In Six Rounds

One of the biggest fights of the year on UK shores goes down this Saturday night as Leigh Wood vs Mauricio Lara takes centre stage at the Nottingham Arena. Wood aims to make a second successful defense of his WBA-Super World Featherweight Title against the hard-punching Mexican this weekend.

Leigh Wood has quickly became one of the biggest stars in British boxing in recent years. The 34-year-old won the WBA-Regular World Featherweight Title back in 2021 and made a successful first defense last March against Michael Conlan. ‘Leigh-thal’ has since been upgraded to the WBA-Super Champion and aims to successfully defend his world crown for the second time this Saturday night against one of the biggest punchers in the featherweight division in Mauricio Lara.

Ahead of the biggest fight of his life this weekend, Wood oozes class and is confident of continuing his impressive knockout streak. The Nottingham man will again fight in front of his hometown crowd and is not willing to lose in front of his beloved fans.

In a recent pre-fight interview with ESBR Boxing, Wood admitted that Lara will be a stern test, but one he feels more than confident of winning:

“He’s [Lara] very good at what he does. Especially if you give him opportunities to do that. He’s dangerous, he’s hot headed, he’s ballsy, he can punch. But he doesn’t really weigh up risk very well. He takes a lot of risks to get his shots off but at the same time, the things that are people’s biggest strength, can sometimes also be their biggest weaknesses as well,” Wood alluded to on what Lara brings to the table.

“I’m trying not to give too much away, but he can be quite reckless and that will be his undoing,” added the Nottingham man.
