Real Madrid player and Brazil international Rodrygo has admitted that he was moments away from joining Barcelona before his transfer to Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old Brazil completed his move from Santos to Spain back in 2019, costing Los Blancos around £40m as he was dubbed the ‘next Neymar’. However things could have been very different for the winger as he almost joined the Galactico’s fiercest rivals, Barcelona, who were originally interested before Madrid beat them to it.

In a recent interview, the attacker revealed how close he was to joining Barcelona, but claimed choosing Real Madrid was an ‘easy’ choice due to the Brazilian contingent that was already present.
The Brazilian said: “When my father told me the news… I always tell this story. I had two shirts: one for Barca and one for Real Madrid and I had to choose. It was very easy for me to choose,”
“But it was all agreed with Barcelona, it was a surprise for me, I didn’t expect Real Madrid to come. It was a scare but then it was one of the happiest moments of my life.”

Rodrygo has won seven trophies with Real, including the La Liga and Champions League double last season. However, this season Barcelona find themselves at the top of the table. As Madrid sit in second and are 11 points behind their Catalan rivals, with UK betting sites pricing them at 7/1, to retain their La Liga title.
