According to reports, Manchester United tried to cut Dean Henderson’s loan deal at Nottingham Forest short but the player rejected.
Erik ten Hag reportedly contacted the goalkeeper with aims of convincing him to return, as the Red Devils saw loanee Martin Dubravka return to Newcastle earlier than expected. United signed Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace but ten Hag’s original choice was the return of Henderson.
The 25-year-old switched from Manchester to Nottingham as he joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan during the summer window. The England international showed his frustration over his time at the club during an interview with TalkSport back in August 2022.
“Nobody followed through with anything they told me. I turned many loans down.”
“Wasting 12 months is criminal at my age.”

Henderson said: “To be quite honest with you, it’s probably been the toughest 12 months of my career. It’s been tough, it’s been hard and I’m so happy I’ve come out the other end of it now,”
“It’s frustrating as well, because I turned so many good loans down last summer for that reason and they wouldn’t let me go. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal, really, at my age. I was fuming.”
During his time at Manchester United, the goalkeeper has been loaned out to clubs including, Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United. He played 26 games in all competitions back in a 2020/21 season that was disrupted by Covid-19, but only made three appearances last season.
