After a faultless four games through the Christmas period Arsenal have finally been rewarded, as Mikel Arteta was named manager of the month and Martin Odegaard was announced as the Premier League player of the month.
The league leaders made light work of all their opposition in the period just before the World Cup and the two games just after, as four wins against Chelsea, Wolves, West Ham and Brighton left Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table.
Martin Odegaard has been one of the main reasons Arsenal still sit top of the table and having scored 3 and assisted 3 through November and December, it came as no surprise when the captain earned himself the player of the month award.

Only one other Norwegian player has ever won the POTM award in the Premier League, as Erling Haaland picked up the first in August of last year and Odegaard is also the first Arsenal player to win the award since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won it in September 2019.
Odegaard praised his ‘young and hungry’ teammates as he described how it felt to win the award to Arsenal’s official website:

No other player in the Premier League managed as many goal contributions as Odegaard through November and December, with the Gunners’ midfield maestro pulling the strings for Arsenal going forward all month.
Martin Odegaard and Mikel Arteta will be hoping they can carry their Winter form through to this weekend’s Premier League game against Spurs who they face in the North London Derby on Sunday.
