After his sensational win on Sunday at the Tournament of Champions, Jon Rahm has questioned the Official World Golf Rankings system. Rahm believes that he has been the best player in the world since August last year, but that the official world rankings doesn’t reflect that.
Rahm Believes He Is Best Golfer In The World
Spanish golf sensational, Jon Rahm, believes there is no better golfer in the world than him right now. The former major champion has won three of his last five starts, and has questioned the golf ranking system as he still remains at number five.
Rahm claimed victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Sunday in Hawaii with a comeback for the ages. The 28-year-old overhauled Collin Morikawa’s seven shot lead after posting a final round of -10.
Having also recently won the Spanish Open and DP World Tour Championship, the former US Open champion was hoping to at least have move up one spot into fourth in the rankings, ahead of American Patrick Cantlay.
Rahm’s frustrations at the Official World Golf Rankings system stems back to last year when the world rankings system was revamped. At the time, Rahm described the changes as “laughable” when priority was placed on the depth of the field rather than the ranks of the players involved.
The Spaniard believes that had they not have changed the way the golf world rankings worked, he would be very close to being world number one right now:
“Had they not changed the world ranking points [system] I would have been pretty damn close [to world No.1] right now. But in my mind, I feel like since August I’ve been the best player in the world.
“Earlier in the year clearly Scottie (Scheffler) was that player, then Rory (McIlroy) was that player, and I feel like right now it’s been me. Anybody, any given year can get a hot three, four months and get to that spot.”
Despite his three recent wins, Rahm still sits at world number five, behind Patrick Cantlay, The Open champion Cameron Smith, Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, and world number one and FedEx Cup winner, Rory McIlroy.
