With 2022 almost behind us and the Premier League table beginning to take shape, we take a look at some of the best fixtures to look out for in 2023 with potential for both relegation scraps and title winning games coming throughout the year.

Top 5 Premier League Matches To look Out For In 2023

  1. Manchester City vs Arsenal | 26th of April | 20:00 Kick Off
  2. Liverpool vs Manchester United | 4th of March | 15:00 Kick Off
  3. West Ham vs Everton | 21st of January | 15:00 Kick Off
  4. Newcastle vs Arsenal | 6th of May 2023 | 15:00 Kick Off
  5. Southampton vs Nottingham Forest | 4th of January | 19:30 Kick Off

5. Southampton vs Nottingham Forest

A huge game in the battle to avoid relegation is just around the corner, as Southampton play Nottingham Forest at Saint Mary’s early in January, in a game that could change the shape of the rest of the season for both sides.

Southampton currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table and have shown no signs of improving on their 12 points with four losses in a row, but their first game of 2023 sees them take on fellow relegation candidates and 19th placed Forest in a match that could see them leapfrog the midlands side and begin their push out of the bottom three.

Forest are currently most bookmakers favourites to go down this season and it really is no surprise with the worst goal difference in the league at -22, however a game against the Saints could turn their season around and push Forest up the table as they battle to avoid the drop having just come back to the Premier League.

4. Newcastle vs Arsenal

Nobody would have picked this out as a fixture to watch out for before the season began, but two surprise performers so far in this years campaign have been current league leaders Arsenal and third place Newcastle, who meet at St James’ Park late on in April.

Eddie Howe has excelled as Newcastle manager this season and with the Magpies now serious contenders for not only Champions League football but also for the league title this year, their home fixture against current league leaders Arsenal could be a pivotal one in the calendar.

The side’s meet late on in April and although either of the teams could have dropped off by then, or even be clear at the top, either way this game is one to watch and could prove to be one of the most entertaining games of the year.

3. West Ham vs Everton

Two sides who have certainly failed to meet expectations so far this season are West Ham and Everton, with the teams meeting for a second time this season late in January in a game that could be an early scrap to avoid relegation. When they first met this season, Everton only just edged the Hammers at Goodison Park, with Neal Maupay scoring the only goal of the game.

The sides are currently 16th and 17th in the table and will both be desperate for a crucial three points that could help them avoid a relegation scrap, which could mean that we are in for some great entertainment at the London Stadium.

Both sides have failed to win their last four games, so the run up to the game in late January could give a good indication of which way the game will go, but in the Premier League anything could happen which is why this game is set up to be a great watch.

2. Liverpool vs Manchester United

One fixture that is always a highlight in the Premier League calendar is Liverpool vs Manchester United. These side’s have already played each other this season, with United coming out on top 2-1 thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in one of the most exciting games of the Premier League campaign so far.

Liverpool will play host to United in March and as the Premier League table begins to shape up, it could be a huge game in terms of qualifying for the Champions League. The Red Devils hold a slender advantage over Liverpool going into the new year, as they sit in fifth while Liverpool are sixth with plenty of work to do in the chase for Europe.

This game always provides top entertainment for both sets of fans as well as the neutrals and this edition in particular has the potential to be a box office affair with both sides desperately trying to catch up to the top four.

1. Manchester City vs Arsenal

The biggest fixture to look out for in 2023 and number one on our list sees Arsenal take on Manchester City at the Etihad in April, in what could be a game that decides the 2022/23 Premier League champions.

Arsenal take on City at the Emirates in a rearranged fixture this February, in a game that could see City claw back some vital points in an attempt to stop Arsenal from winning the league for the first time since 2003/04 when the Gunners went invincible.

Pep and Arteta

Although the game in February is also one of the biggest this year, when the sides face each other for a second time this season in April the Premier League will be a lot closer to it’s conclusion and if both these sides keep playing the way that they currently are things could be tight at the top.

Pep Guardiola will host his prodigy along with Mikel Arteta’s young side that have done so well so far this season in a game that could certainly decide the title, we could even be lucky enough to get a moment similar to THAT ‘Aguerooooooo’ moment in the 2011/12 season… we can dare to dream anyway.
