What is a Betting Promo Code
A promotional code is often referred to as a promo code or a bonus code. It will be a series of numbers and letters, usually there are no special characters involved. As part of an offer published by a sportsbook, the customer will need to enter that promo code in order to secure that promotion.
In many cases, the make up of the code will refer to the nature of the offer so it may well say BET50. This is just an example and the code could be more random so do please make a correct note when you look to take up the offers.
In some instances, the code will have already been entered by the bookie, by default, but this isn’t always the case. It will be part of the terms and conditions that you use it so do make sure it is typed in before you press any submit buttons.
Note that this isn’t a practise used by all bookmakers and just because some will have issued promo codes in the past, it doesn’t mean that they will do so moving forward. It’s important to check those terms and conditions to see whether a code is required.
When do I need to Redeem Betting Promo Code?
Betting promo codes are most commonly used during the sign up process. As part of the welcome package, there is likely to be a sign up offer which could be a match on opening deposits or possibly a series of free bets.
Whatever the deal may be, betting bonus codes could be attached to it. Here is an example of one in use during the registration process.
In the first shot, the landing page can be seen and the blue button takes you to sign up. On this registration page, the space in which to enter the promo code can be clearly seen.
Sign up offers come in many forms and often there is a matched deposit on opening credits, Occasionally, there will be free bonus funds in your account without any financial outlay, in which case there would be no deposit bonus codes, but these are much rarer.
It may also be the case that your bookmaker will require a promotional code for any of their ongoing offers. Reload bonuses on second and third deposits could be a typical example although these are more commonly used by the online casinos.
Whatever the deal may be, it’s important just to check whether a code is required because you don’t want to miss out by not inputting it.

How we Rank Sports Betting Promo Codes
We’ve listed our top ten betting promo codes above but the selection process isn’t a random one. They are all ranked by certain criteria which focus on the following:
- Type of Bonus
The type of bonus that you get after entering the code is important. The best promo codes are the ones that lead to a promotion that actually holds some genuine value. It isn’t always necessary to enter a code and many sportsbooks don’t use them so the customer shouldn’t be asked for the added task of entering a promotion code without earning something that is of real benefit to them. Betfair are one of the sites that offer a simple bonus without the need to deposit, so we can recommend them. - Deposit Methods
The best online sports betting codes shouldn’t just limit your choice of funding options. On occasions, you may see them listed with just the option to fund your account with a bank card.Ideally, we should see the offer opened up to other deposit methods such as Skrill, Neteller and possibly even PayPal. Boyle Sports offer one of the most diverse range of payment offers, which will always come in handy. - Timescale
Online betting promo codes shouldn’t have any punitive time restrictions placed on them. We want to make use of the offer quickly before moving on and focusing on trying to land some winning bets. This is why a bonus code is best suited to a welcome bonus where there are free bets which come with expiry dates of just a few days. Alternatively, they can certainly be used with a matched deposit offer or we are happy to see no deposit bonus codes uk but we don’t want a long series of wagering requirements to follow them up.Betfair’s risk free sign up offer can be used straight away, so if you’re looking to get started quickly, then Betfair could be the best choice. - Fair terms & conditions of a betting promo code
There is a section later in this guide that relates to terms and conditions and it’s worth reading this in greater detail. The main point is that we want the offer to be fair and to not have highly restrictive rules that may ultimately see the customer miss out.Reasonable expiry periods and fair rollover terms are among the things that we are looking for. An example here is SportNation, who are a new betting site that pay a lot of bonuses as free bet tokens but those tokens usually come with reasonable expiry terms. - Easy to follow coding
It may only be a small point but it can be useful for a code to be easy to follow and to hint at what you’re going to receive. For example, the BONUS20 code issued by MarathonBet is easy to remember and it effectively tells customers that they can expect a bonus of £20.Keep it simple is our message to the sportsbooks and this is one extra way in which they can make it onto our list. As we mentioned above, MarathonBet make this as simple as anyone out there with their BONUS20 code.
Types of Betting Bonus Codes
The matched deposit welcome bonus is a common offer where promo codes make an appearance. However, there are many others that you need to look out for, whether your betting on a desktop or on betting apps. These may include:
No Deposit Bonus Codes
These are getting less common on the sportsbooks and you may see more of these promos over at the online casinos. A no deposit bonus gives the customer a small amount of money to play with in return for completing registration.
The bonus funds are likely to come with larger wagering requirements so remember to look out for those but, at the very least, they give you the opportunity to have a look around the website and see if you’d be happy to play here moving forward.
One of the few sportsbooks publishing no deposit bonus codes is Sky Bet who are, at the time of writing in September 2021, listing a £10 no deposit free bet with the code FTP10.
It’s extremely rare to see these deals and even less common for a bonus code to be attached to them.
Deposit, Bet and Get
This type of bonus is usually applied at the start of the account. It requires a sign up, an initial deposit and an opening, qualifying bet and, in return, the customer receives a set of free bet tokens up to a set amount.
Many sportsbooks on the list of best betting promo codes list this deposit, bet and get offer and a good example can be found at 888Sport. Here, you are opening an account and staking £10 as a qualifying bet.
In return, the customer will receive 3x £10 free bet tokens and an extra £10 to use at the casino. As mentioned in the above table, the 888 promo code in this case is currently 30F.
Risk Free Bets
A sportsbook may offer a risk free bet either to welcome you on board or as part of an ongoing promotion. Essentially, subject to any terms and conditions relating to minimum odds, the bookmaker in question will refund any losing bets up to the stated maximum.
If your bet wins, then you simply collect a profit in the usual way but, if that bet were to lose, you would get a refund – usually in the form of free bet tokens.
An example of this is the Paddy Power sign up offer which offers a £20 risk free bet at the time of writing. New players will need to complete the registration process before depositing a minimum amount of £10.00.
A qualifying bet of up to £20 can be placed on the sportsbook and, if that bet doesn’t win, Paddy will refund up to that £20 limit. The Paddy Power promo code relating to this offer is YSKAEE.
Important Terms of Online Betting Promo Codes
No promotion should be entered into without a full understanding of the terms and conditions and those with online betting promo codes attached are certainly no exception.
There are general terms in place along with others that may be more specific and here are some of the rules that you can expect.
Minimum Odds Thresholds
This type of regulation can appear in any offer but it is particularly common in the type of Deposit, Bet and Get deal. In the second stage of this offer, you are being asked to make a qualifying bet in order to trigger extra free bets in return.
That qualifier will almost certainly have minimum odds attached but what is fair and what is harsh? With the 888Sport welcome deal, the odds for the first, qualifying bet, are set at 1/2 (1.50). That’s a fair deal in our opinion as this is low and many favourites will dip towards this point.
On the other side of the scale, Odds that head above 2.0 (Even Money) are less fair as far as we are concerned.
Expiry Date
Don’t forget that all promotions are likely to have a fixed amount of time in which to take them up. Beyond the expiry date, they will no longer be valid.
This also applies to any free bet tokens that are issued once the offer has been completed. In the case of bookmakers such as Coral and Ladbrokes, those tokens are fleeting with four days in which to redeem them. Over at 888Sport, there is an extension with seven days before those tokens expire and this is a relatively average figure.
SportNation are among the most generous in this respect with a 30 day limit on their free bet tokens. Similar dates apply to the general terms and conditions of the offers as a whole and we obviously prefer those that have a longer expiration date.
Minimum Deposits
Look out for the terms relating to minimum deposits. There is always likely to be a minimum deposit requirement when you take up a welcome offer but is it low at £5.00, or much higher?
Sportsbooks tend to ask either for £5.00 or £10.00 as a minimum deposit. This seems quite reasonable and, if you are serious about betting, it should be well within your budget. Any higher than that and it may seem less fair.
Another point to check is whether there is a maximum threshold on the deposit. Can you add more funds and will they continue to be matched or is there an upper ceiling?
Wagering Requirements
The wagering requirement, also referred to as a rollover is, perhaps, the one term that puts off the casual bettor. High rollers will generally have no issue with playing through before collecting profits but this is arguably the most important term attached to betting promo codes.
A wagering requirement specifies that the account holder must play through their bonus funds a certain amount of times before any profits can be withdrawn. This is a potential example.
£50 of Bonus Funds are Claimed and there is a 5x wagering requirement attached under terms and conditions. Therefore, the customer in this instance would have to stake £250 in qualifying bets before any profits can be withdrawn.
Keep in mind too that there are likely to be time limits placed on the rollover so customers would have to complete that sequence in a specific timeframe.
The best promo codes in terms of wagering requirements include those that only feature the bonus funds as part of the rollover. Some deals will combine the amount of the deposit and the bonus and it’s clearly preferable to avoid those.
Ideally, customers would also want a longer timeframe in which to complete those requirements.
Minimum Qualifying Bet
Under the deposit, bet and get offers, players must make that initial qualifying bet. Is that bet a fair one with a simple, single stake required or would you have to place a straight line multiple with a number of selections?
The best offers with promo codes will be along the lines of the 888Sport deal with its 30F promo code. One £10.00 qualifier is needed as a single bet with odds of 1/2 or longer. Coral are similar but their initial stake is even lower at £5.00.
Deposit Restrictions
Can you access the welcome offer or ongoing promotion after depositing with any funding method or are there restrictions? It’s the case that many sign up deals ask that you fund via bank card or bank transfer.
On occasions, they may extend to cover PayPal and you can add PayPal funds before taking up the Coral and Ladbrokes welcome deals. However, it’s less common to see Skrill, Neteller, other eWallets and Cryptocurrency included so remember to check on this important point.
Why Bookies Stop Using Promo Codes
Some bookmakers have phased out betting promo codes while others have never used them to begin with. There could be a number of reasons for that and they may differ from bookie to bookie but it’s easy to guess why this might be the case.
Bonus codes may simply make things more complicated than they need to be. Unless they are already typed in by default, it’s possible that a customer may input them incorrectly or they may miss the code out altogether.
If an account holder subsequently misses out on a promotion, it could lead to a complaint being sent across to customer services. While the fault may lie with that customer for not reading the terms and conditions, it’s hassle that the bookmaker simply doesn’t need.
That may not always be the case as to why online betting promo codes are being phased out but it’s a perfectly plausible situation.
It’s also been the case that codes have been more regularly used by the online casinos and in other areas of iGaming such as bingo. It’s not obvious as to why this is the case. They are rare, by comparison, at the sportsbooks but they are still required in places so it’s important to look out for them,
Offers which don’t Require a Sports Betting Promo Code
Irrespective of whether a bookmaker uses betting promo codes in certain situations, there will always be offers that don’t require them. All it takes in many instances is to opt in or simply follow a link.

Acca Insurance
William Hill are just one bookmaker who publish acca insurance offers but there are many more. The terms to each promo will vary slightly but they will all follow a common theme. Customers will need to bet on a straight line multi which includes a certain number of selections. Minimum odds for each leg or for the overall acca are likely to apply.
If all of the selections win, the customer will collect a profit in the usual way. If, however, just one leg of that multiple lets them down, the sportsbook will refund the stake. In most cases, that stake will come in the form of free bet tokens and you’ll need to check the ts and cs, including expiry dates, that relate to them.
William Hill’s Acca Freedom is one such deal and it comes with more flexible terms than most. A minimum of 5 selections need to be made and, if just one leg doesn’t come in, stakes will be refunded up to a maximum of £20.
Unlike other acca insurance promos, Acca Freedom lets customers mix and match events from over 70 sports across their platform.

Best Odds Guaranteed
Virtually every bookmaker has a best odds guarantee for all horse racing in the UK and Ireland. The system works by guaranteeing that the sportsbook in question will pay out the better odds from either the ante post or the SP price.
It would be very laborious and needlessly time consuming if a sportsbook asked their customers to enter a code every time that they took a punt on a horse race. For that reason, there is no need for betting promo codes to be entered for a best odds guaranteed offer.
Examples of bookmakers who provide a best odds guarantee include Paddy Power, William Hill, Coral, 10Bet, MansionBet, Virgin Bet, Boylesports and BetFred but the list could almost be endless.
Extra Winnings
This type of offer isn’t common but one good example comes from BetFred who have a number of promos linked to this. One that we’ve seen consistently is Double Delight, Hat Trick Heaven where extra returns are paid in the first goalscorer markets if your selection goes on to score twice or three times.
Some bookmakers also list promotions known as Acca Boosts. They are distinct from Acca Insurance offers but both will require you to pick a straight line accumulator with a minimum amount of selections and minimum odds for each leg.
This type of offer will require all of those selections to win and, if they do, there will be a percentage boost on your profits. NetBet have one of these promotions in place and it’s typical of the type of acca boost offers that you might see elsewhere.
It’s fairly restrictive in terms of sports with only six available including football, tennis and baseball. A minimum of a straight line multiple with three selections is required and all picks must have odds of 1/5 or higher. Boosts start from 3% for a winning treble and rise all the way to 50% for 13 or more correct selections.
As with most offers of this type, no online sports betting bonus codes are required for the NetBet offer.
Free Bet Clubs
There is some scope for issuing betting promo codes for free bet clubs but not many bookies seem to have this requirement. Betting bonus codes tend to be used more often for one off deals and not through the types of loyalty programmes that are attached to the free bet clubs.
Many of these clubs take into account all of the bets that you place over a period of time – usually a week. Because of that ongoing process, it would be unfair to ask customers to continually input a bonus code.
This could also cause problems for the sportsbook if an account holder enters the relevant betting promo codes one week but forgets to do it on the next occasion. You can imagine customer services being inundated with complaints.
A good example of a free bet club with no bonus code can be found at Betway. Here, you can claim a £10 free bet each week in return for staking £25 in qualifying multiples and all you have to do is opt in.

Closing Thoughts
While some customers may find it annoying to enter a sports betting promo code, they do have their uses. One positive thing to say about them involves the rules of the offer. If you enter the bonus codes correctly, it tends to suggest that you have read the terms and conditions.
The important thing to remember is that the code will activate the promotion in question so, if there is one in place, you simply must enter it in order to take advantage of the deal. It is a quick and easy thing to do and, in many cases, it’s already there by default. If it’s not, make sure it’s entered correctly – copy and paste if necessary – and the promotion is ready to use.
