World Darts Championship Day 1 Tips
19:15 – Kevin Doets vs Stowe Buntz: Doets To Win & Highest Checkout @ 2/1
This is an extremely tricky one to call. There’s little to separate the pair in the opening match of the 2024 World Darts Championship, with Doets priced at 8/11 to win the match and Buntz at 11/10.
Doets is undoubtedly the more experienced player of the two, earning more than £110,000 in prize money across his career. He’s made the last 32 of the UK Open and Players Championship Finals in 2023.
Buntz recently found himself in the spotlight after making the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam, beating a number of formidable opponents and this could be a good stepping stone for him – but he hasn’t competed very often outside of North America.
Doets looks like the better prepared challenger which could pay dividends in front of the ‘Ally Pally’ faithful and we’re backing him for the match double at 2/1.
20:15 – Cameron Menzies vs Rusty-Jake Rodriguez: Rodriguez To Win @ 11/8
This is another really close one in the betting, but preference sides with Rusty-Jake Rodriguez to overcome underdog status and beat Cameron Menzies in the first round on Friday night.
Both players are of a similar calibre but Rodriguez holds the form heading in. The Austrian played Menzies at Players Championship 29 earlier this year in November, coming away the 6-5 winner with an average of 93.79.
He was narrowly knocked out of the second round of this tournament last year at the hands of Chris Dobey. At 11/8, Rodriguez presents a value pick in the penultimate match of the night.
21:15 – Simon Whitlock vs Paolo Nebrida: Whitlock To Win, Highest Checkout & Most 180s @ 8/13
The final match which closes day one of proceedings at Alexandra Palace sees former World Cup hero Simon Whitlock take on Paolo Nebrida in what appears to be a complete mismatch on paper.
The Australian is the huge 1/14 favourite to move on to the second round and it’s for good reason. Whitlock has earned over £2.5m across his career in the sport and has good experience in this tournament, most notably reaching the final in 2010.
He hasn’t been playing his best darts in recent months but this should be no problem for him. Nebrida mostly plays on the Asian circuit and this should prove to be too much for him on the biggest stage.
Whitlock match treble at 8/13 is our play for this match.
