Wimbledon Tip Day 9 – Swiatek vs Svitolina Over 19.5 Games

Heavy outright favourite Iga Swiatek rallied from two match points down to prevail in her round of 16 clash with Belinda Bencic, and confirm her spot in the final eight of Wimbledon for the first time.

That was the first time we have seen the four-time slam winner under the cosh at this year’s tournament, but a truly sensational comeback shows she is made of sterner stuff and undoubtedly has the ability to prove her grass sceptics wrong.

She comes up against a resurgent Elina Svitolina, who reaches the quarters for the second consecutive slam after a successful run at the French Open. These two have met each other before in Rome, where clay-court specialist Swiatek claimed a 6-2, 7-5 victory, but expect the playing field to levelled somewhat.

Svitolina is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist and boasts better grass-court credentials than the world number one – expect both players to trade blow-for-blow on their serves and rack up the games total.

Wimbledon Tip Day 9 – Vondrousova to Win

We are siding with the value here and tipping the slight underdog, Marketa Vondrousova, to advance at the expense of Jessica Pegula.

Pegula has largely benefited from a favourable draw thus far, coming up against lower ranked players while advancing without dropping a set. Of course, this is no doubt impressive, but as history has shown, the quarter-finals of a grand slam is where she feels the pressure most having been here five times before and never advanced.

Vondrousova meanwhile has claimed huge scalps so far in the shape of No. 12 seed Veronika Kudermetova and No. 20 Donna Vekic, and the 2019 French Open finalist has been handed a favourable price that we simply couldn’t ignore.

Wimbledon Tip Day 9 – Djokovic to Win 3-1

Novak Djokovic’s inevitable march towards another Wimbledon final is truly something to behold as he registered his 32nd straight win on these grounds.

He did however drop his first set of the tournament against Hubert Hurkacz, who for large parts of their round of 16 clash went toe-to-toe with the seven time champion.

Despite this, there is nothing to suggest Andrey Rublev has enough in the tank to claim an improbable win in this quarter-final, but we are expecting the Russian to match Hurkacz’s feat of snatching a set.

Rublev managed to dig deep to find a way past Alexander Bublik in a relentless five-setter, which is likely to have a bearing on his capacity to keep up with Novak, but he has a fighting spirit that was perhaps best reflected by this frankly stupendous diving winner – see below.
