Having correctly predicted two of our three selections on Thursday, we are back this morning to offer up another handful of Wimbledon tips on Day 5.
Wimbledon Tips Day 5 – 07/07/2023
- Christopher O’Connell vs Jiri Vesely: Vesely to Win @ 10/11
- Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexandre Muller: Under 28.5 Games @ 1/1
- Matteo Berrettini vs Alex De Minaur: De Minaur to Win @ 4/7
All three of our selections combine to make an accumulator as odds of 5/1, which can be backed by clicking below.
Wimbledon Tip Day 5 – Vesely to Win
First, we head to court 14 for one of the earlier matches as Christopher O’Connell takes on Jiri Vesely in the second round.
It is interesting to note that both of these players have been handed identical prices in the market, which indicates just how tough it is to call.
Nevertheless, we are siding with Vesely’s solid record on grass having claimed some huge scalps at Wimbledon before in the shape of Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev.
He also managed to prevail in a hugely entertaining first round match against Queen’s semi-finalist Seb Korda, and there isn’t a lot to suggest O’Connell’s best game is on grass having lost 13 of his 32 games on this surface.
Wimbledon Tip Day 5 – Alcaraz vs Muller Under 28.5 Games
Number one seed Carlos Alcaraz blew away Jeremy Chardy in the Frenchman’s final career game, racing to a first set victory in just 22 minutes.
Off the back of an impressive run to the title at Queen’s, he has adjusted his game to grass to great effect this season and looks primed for a deep run.
Only Novak Djokovic has the unyielding, relentless stamina to stop Alcaraz in his tracks, and we expect Alexandre Muller – who already pulled off somewhat of an upset against Arthur Rinderknech – to fall to a straight set defeat in under 29 games.
In the normal market Alcaraz is as short at 1/80, which is one of the most lopsided prices we have seen in a slam.
Wimbledon Tip Day 5 – De Minaur to Win
2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini has been rewarded for a taxing four set effort against fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego by being handed a tough second round test.
He will face off against Alex De Minaur, whose preparation for Wimbledon couldn’t have gone much better having reached the final of Queen’s last month, only to fall to Carlos Alcaraz at the final hurdle.
Berrettini on the other hand has struggled for full fitness, featuring just once since mid-April, and although he enacted revenge on Sonego after his loss at the Stuttgart Open, he still appeared stiffer than usual in round one.
De Minaur looked mightily impressive at Queen’s and then subsequently in the first round here – we can’t see Berrettini’s body allowing him to push to the levels required to beat his opponent, and we’re siding with the market favourite here.
