Finding an attack that link-up so well is difficult for any manager, so SportsLens decided to stop, think and appreciate the greatest trios in Premier League history.
Salah, Mane and Firmino
Easily the best trio of late but one that ended in 2022 when Mane left to join Bayern Munich. Together they scored 183 goals in the Premier League between 2017-2022. Salah was, of course, at the forefront of that attack as he is now Liverpool’s 5th highest goalscorer of all time.
In all competitions, the trio managed 338 goals and were integral to winning trophies such as the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup, FA Cup, Club World Cup and Carabao Cup.
This trio may have had issues off the pitch but when on the turf were a phenomenal force. They even tied with most Premier League goals scored by a trio with 57.
The other trio who managed to do that were?….Don’t worry, they’re next.
Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney
Arguably most people’s top pick. From 2007-2009, the front three had 92 goals together in the Premier League. Just in the 2007/08 season alone, they had 79 goals in all competitions.
Ronaldo, admittedly, scoring 42 of those.
The front three didn’t spend long together but football fans across the globe were in awe of them.
Gary Neville recently commented on the Sky Sports Football Show. He said: “[Carlos] Tevez for a year with [Wayne] Rooney and [Cristiano] Ronaldo was just breathtaking, it was out of this world. Not just because of the quality of the players, but there was a selfish, horrible, nasty determination with those three.
“Ronaldo in a different way on the pitch, he wouldn’t go around kicking and hassling people, hustling, he was immense in terms of his performance levels, but Rooney and Tevez were street fighters but with unbelievable ability and there was something of that front three.”
Sterling, Aguero and Sane
One of the most underrated ones in the section. 129 goals were scored between the three of them from 2016 to 2019. They were electric in the centurion season for Manchester City in which they scored 49 goals. They all went their separate ways in the end as Leroy Sane opted for Bayern Munich, after he fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola, Sergio Aguero then made way for Barcelona before Raheem Sterling moved down to London to join Chelsea.
Henry, Bergkamp and Pires
During their invincible season, this trio managed 48 goals in the Premier League, 58 in all competitions. Henry, obviously being the power house in this trio as he scored 30 goals in that season in the Premier League. He’s also Arsenal’s all time leading goalscorer…in case you didn’t already know.
