The 16-year-old has been making waves throughout Manchester United’s youth teams and is being touted as a replacement for the injured Luke Shaw, but who is Harry Amass?

Harry Amass Background

Born in March 2007, Amass was involved in Watford’s youth set-up from the age of 9 before joining Manchester United in 2023.

At the tender age of 15, Amass was included in Watford’s first team squad for a 3rd round FA Cup fixture against Championship side Reading.

Desperate to hang on to Amass, who has played 13 times in England’s youth set-up, the Hornets offered him a professional contract to ward off interest from Manchester United, but the London-born full-back opted to join the Red Devils instead.

Since moving up north, the 16-year-old has been an ever-present in Adam Lawrence’s Under 18 squad, throughout their near-flawless Premier League campaign so far.

As a result of his fine form, the 16-year-old has caught the attention of first-team boss Erik ten Hag, who invited him to train with the first-team earlier this month.

Harry Amass Playing Style

An out-and-out left-back, Amass possesses composure beyond his years and is trusted by his teammates to take the ball in any situation.

Blessed with a wicked cross and eagled-eyed vision, the 16-year-old also poses a significant attacking threat from full-back. According to Transfermarkt, Amass has scored 1 goal and laid on 3 assists for his teammates in 12 Under 18 Premier League appearances this season.

Quick and agile, Amass’ ability to glide with the ball and cover ground quickly is reminiscent of the man the 16-year-old will be looking to usurp, Luke Shaw.

Could Harry Amass Play For Manchester United’s First Team This Season?

Following the announcement that Luke Shaw could be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury he picked up against Luton Town at the weekend, Manchester United find themselves without a senior left-back available.

With Tyrell Malacia looking likely to be out for the entire season, Alvaro Fernandez out on loan at Benfica and Sergio Reguilon’s loan cut short, the Red Devils now face playing the rest of the season without a recognised left-back in their playing squad.

As a result, a route has been paved for youngsters like Harry Amass to be fast-tracked into first-team football.

However, with the left-back still only 16 years old and developing, it may be slightly too soon for Amass to make his first-team debut in the coming weeks.
