West Ham’s Anfield record makes for grim reading for Irons fans ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash.

They have only beaten Liverpool at Anfield once in 55 attempts, and manager David Moyes has never won at the ground in 20 games as a coach.

The two sides meet tonight in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final, with Liverpool the heavy favourites.

But despite the odds being stacked against West Ham, they will take confidence from their recent form. Aside from their heavy defeat at Fulham last week, they have won three of their last four in all competitions.

Their 2-0 win at home to Freiburg sealed progression through to the Europa League knockouts as Group A winners.

But beating Liverpool at Anfield presents an entirely different challenge, as their awful record at the ground shows.

West Ham’s Record At Anfield

West Ham have beaten Liverpool at Anfield only three times in their history. The first of these wins game in the second tier of English football, all the way back in 1954.

The two sides met in the old Second Division as West Ham ran out 2-1 winners. The Irons would finish the season ninth in the table, three places above Liverpool in 12th.

It would take another nine years before they would win at Anfield again, this time in the First Division. Another 2-1 win for the London club came thanks to goals from Martin Peters and the legendary Sir Geoff Hurst in September 1964 as 45,497 fans watched on.

When Did West Ham Last Win At Anfield?

But if fans thought nine years was a long wait for an Anfield victory, they were in for a shock. The Hammers would not beat Liverpool away from home in any competition again until August 2015.

After waiting for over 50 years, Irons fans were treated to a 3-0 demolition of Brendan Rogers’ Reds. Slaven Bilic was West Ham boss at the time, as Manuel Lanzini opened the scoring within three minutes.

Mark Noble doubled the lead after half an hour before Diafra Sakho completed the rout in added time. Since then, West Ham have drawn twice, losing their last seven in a row.

David Moyes’ Anfield Record

West Ham manager David Moyes has never beaten Liverpool at Anfield as a manager

Things don’t get much better when looking at manager David Moyes’ Anfield record, either. In 20 matches at Anfield as a manger, Moyes has never won.

He has enjoyed home wins over Liverpool while managing each of Everton, Manchester United and West Ham, but has never been able to take those successes on the road against the Reds.

Moyes’ only points at Anfield all came during his time managing their neighbours and rivals Everton. The Toffees drew a very respectable seven times at Liverpool under David Moyes’ tenure.

But since taking over the reigns at West Ham, they have picked up just three points against Jurgen Klopp’s men. those points came in the form of a 3-2 win at the London Stadium on 7 November 2021.

But at Anfield, it’s been a story of repeated failure. West Ham have lost on all six occasions they’ve played at Anfield under David Moyes.

Fans will be hoping that run comes to an end tonight, with a place in the final four for the Carabao Cup awaiting.
